A little about me …
I became a full time Yoga and Pilates teacher in the summer of 2018 after retiring from being a Molecular Pharmacologist (someone who looks at the way our DNA works with drugs) in Cancer and bowel disease at Newcastle University. I agreed to do a short interview about my transition from science to yoga teacher for Luxe Magazine if you are interested. I miss the science, but feel very fortunate to enjoy my new career just as much!
Since leaving academia I have qualified in several aspects of fitness including personal training, Pilates, working with older adults, Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Yoga Therapeutics, Yin Yoga and several other yoga short teacher trainings.
I have taught Yoga, Pilates and personal fitness training at several venues including Newcastle University, Yoga studios, gyms and church halls. I am now concentrating on a few online classes and live individual classes from my home studio. As numbers are small I can really concentrate on what you require to get the best out of your practice.
In both Yoga and Pilates classes I like to take time to ensure the alignment for each pose is ideal for you, and help you to use the breath, body and mind together to get the most out of your practice. To achieve this the classes are designed to flow from posture to posture with an emphasis on movement as therapeutic, increasing core stability and strength as well as calming the mind through the breathing
My online Tuesday yoga class (7-8pm), is generally a slow practice allowing us to address the nuances of yoga postures so that you can feel comfortable in all yoga classes, adjust as necessary for your body and allow you to progress your practice as you wish. During this class I will also introduce you to transitioning through postures using breath to facilitate movement and quietening the mind to truly benefit from your practice.
If you can’t do Tuesdays you are always welcome to try private classes or online Saturday morning class (9.30-10.30am). Although this class is designed for deepening your yoga practice, both physically and mentally, I will always offer options to suite different physical abilities.
Sunday evening classes are designed to stretch and move quietly and slowly, followed by an option to remain in class for a 30 min. Yoga Nidra (guided meditation).
Both Yoga practice and Pilates will compliment any other form of exercise or can be regarded as a stand alone practices. There will always be different levels offered as options that take into consideration all levels of fitness, experience and/or injuries.
I look forward to meeting you in class
Thank you for reading this.
